This
is not war-gaming. This unique project gives the class an opportunity
to work as a team to set up and create all aspects of this three
dimensional perspective. In addition to the numerous troops, students
will also set up rocks, trees, buildings, forts, castles, temples,
ladders, bunkers, huts, siege towers, chariots, tanks, trains,
cannon, aircraft, canoes, boats, galleons, and thousands of small
accessories to enrich the full historical experience.
Once
the classroom is transformed into the historical occurrence, we
will discuss the events that led up to that days focus and how
everything unfolded. Students will help to re-set the vast diorama
as the story progresses all the while listening to the hardships
the men and often women suffered such as lack of food and medicine,
bad weather conditions, poor planning and missed opportunities.
With this teaching technique, the children will receive tactile
lessons in the struggle to build nations,
forge civilizations and reap the rewards or consequences of those
actions.
On
another level, children are often fascinated with the way simple
plastic figures have been converted and painted to form the vast
plastic legions in this collection. It is truly an American folk
art that will inspire many students to craft their own figures
and to study history well beyond the classroom. In age of slick
movies and computer games, of snap together pre-painted models,
Toy Epics could introduce a fascinating hobby that simply requires
some painting, sculpting and a bit of imagination. |
